Trump slams Germany on Economics & NATO involvement (May 30, 2017)
Trump has had a cold relationship with German Chancellor Angela Merkel since before he took office. He was livid after Merkel — who has been leading the European country since 2005 — was chosen as Time’s 2015 Person of the Year.
Despite Germany’s status as one of the strongest nations in Europe, Trump said Merkel is “ruining” her homeland. He also refused to shake her hand during her state visit.
Merkel, of the center-right Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party, was re-elected to a fourth term as Chancellor in September 2017.
