Wyoming GOP Votes To ‘No Longer Recognize’ Liz Cheney As A Republican

The Wyoming Republican Party on Tuesday voted in favor of a resolution to no longer recognize United States Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyoming) as one of their own.

Cheney, who was one of ten House Republicans to vote to impeach former President Donald Trump for inciting the January 6 Capitol insurrection, has been largely ostracized within conservative circles and was even stripped of her leadership roles by the House Republican Conference back in May.

She currently serves as the ranking GOP member on the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6 attack on the United States Capitol.

“Previously mentioned in the resolution of censure, Representative Liz Cheney ‘cast her vote in favor of impeachment without any quantifiable evidence of High Crimes or Misdemeanors. As to date, no quantifiable and or undisputed evidence has been offered Representative Liz Cheney to defend her questionable decision,” the resolution to revoke Cheney’s party status stated.

“To further her own personal political agenda, Representative Liz Cheney has not only caused massive disruption, distraction and division within the House Republican Conference, but has also willingly, happily, and energetically joined forced with and proudly pledged allegiance to democrat Speaker of the House Pelosi, as a means of serving her own personal interests while ignoring the interests, needs and expectations of Wyoming Republicans,” the document said.

It also requested that the “House Republican Conference Leadership immediately remove Representative Liz Cheney from all committee assignments and the House Republican conference itself, to assist and expedite her seamless exodus from the Republican Party.”

Team Cheney responded with a smackdown of the GOP’s descent into Trump’s tendrils.

“It’s laughable to suggest Liz is anything but a committed conservative Republican,” Cheney spokesperson Jeremy Adler said in a statement. “She is bound by her oath to the Constitution. Sadly, a portion of the Wyoming GOP leadership has abandoned that fundamental principle, and instead allowed themselves to be held hostage to the lies of a dangerous and irrational man.”

Cheney is seeking reelection in the 2022 midterms against Trump-endorsed challenger Harriet Hageman.

“It’s fitting because Liz Cheney stopped recognizing what Wyomingites care about a long time ago. When she launched her war against President Trump, she completely broke with where we are as a state,” Hagemen said in a statement.

Cheney, however, has not retreated from the frontlines of the fight that she believes is essential to protecting the future of American democracy.

“Political leaders who sit silent in the face of these false and dangerous claims are aiding a former president who is at war with the rule of law and the Constitution,” Cheney said last week in a speech in New Hampshire. “I love my party and its history and its principles. But I love my country more. And I will do all I can to defend her.”
