On Sunday, President Donald Trump stated that he is immune from COVID-19 following his infection and hospitalization last week. His doctor claimed Trump no longer poses a potential exposure threat to those around him.
“It looks like I’m immune for, I don’t know, maybe a long time and maybe a short time, it could be a lifetime, nobody really knows, but I’m immune,” he said. “You have a president who is immune… so now you have a president who doesn’t have to hide in a basement like his opponent,” he added, taking a dig at Democratic opponent Joe Biden, who has made it clear he has been far more cautious about COVID-19 than the president.
The Biden Campaign has been posting Biden’s COVID-19 test results every day since his possible exposure to the virus during the first presidential debate against President Trump. They have been consistently negative, but this has not stopped Trump from attacking Biden’s strategy to avoid the virus.
“If you look at Joe, he was coughing yesterday horribly and grabbing his mask, as he’s coughing. And I don’t know what that was all about, and it didn’t get much press,” said Trump in a phone interview with Fox News.

While one can typically assume that after contracting and surviving a viral infection, they can be often immune from a new infection due to the antibodies they have created. However, COVID-19 has not been around long enough for the World Health Organization to determined if it is the same as any other viral infection.
“We do not have enough data to confirm if antibodies protect, what antibody levels are required, or how long protection will last,” said the WHO in August about COVID-19.
