William Barr Pays $30,000 To Host Holiday Party At Trump International Hotel Sparking Ethics Outcry

Attorney General William Barr has booked a holiday party at President Donald Trump’s International Hotel in Washington, D.C., for December 8.

Barr’s holiday party will bring in around $30,000 to the hotel. With 200 people attending and each person costing $135. And $4,500 to rent the presidential ballroom, according to the Washington Post.

The Department of Justice said that the event was not associated with the department and that Barr consulted with them before booking anything. The DOJ said, “they determined that ethics rules did not prohibit him from hosting his annual party at the Trump hotel.”

Although the party does not directly violate the departments ethic rules, it is still problematic.

“It creates the appearance that high-level political appointees or allies of the president may feel like they need to spend money at the president’s businesses as a show of loyalty,” Liz Hempowicz, director of public policy at a non-profit on government oversight, said.

Secret service agents have also been spending large amounts of money at other Trump hotels, causing further ethics concerns.
