White House Twitter Account Calls Out Hypocrisy Of Opponents Of Biden’s Student Loan Forgiveness

The official White House Twitter account skewered critics of President Joe Biden‘s plan to forgive $10,000 of student loans for those who make less than $125,000.

“Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene had $183,504 in PPP [Paycheck Protection Program] loans forgiven,” a tweet from the account read in response to Greene saying during an appearance on Newsmax that the government calling student debt forgiven “unfair.”

The account went on to expose the amount that six Republican Congress members, including Matt Gaetz (Florida), Mike Kelly (Pennsylvania) and Vern Buchanan (Florida) received from PPP.

Megan Coyne, who was once responsible for making the @NJGov Twitter account famous with jokes about New Jersey, joined the White House digital strategy team on August 1. The official Twitter account has been noticeably more humorous since her arrival.

Last week, Biden announced the keeping of one of his campaign promises, which was to announce “a plan to give working and middle-class families breathing room as they prepare to resume federal student loan payments in January 2023.”

Some Democrats say the $10,000 should have been higher -– up to $50,000 – to help minorities and marginalized populations, while some Republican lawmakers argue that the forgiveness program, which will cost the government around $300 billion, is detrimental to the economy.

The high cost of college also remains an issue as the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget announced that even with the forgiveness program, the current level of debt would rise again in just four years.
