After President Donald Trump flies to Florida on Inauguration Day, the White House will be “thoroughly disinfected” for President-elect Joe Biden.
On Wednesday, the General Services Administration (GSA) said that it would “thoroughly clean and disinfect” surfaces touched by Trump administration officials. Hotspots include door handles, light switches and furniture, touched in the Trump and his staff final moments.
Under a federal contract, one firm has been hired for $30,000 to provide “disinfectant misting services” to combat coronavirus in the White House.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said in July that COVID-19 could survive on surfaces for anywhere between hours and days.

Trump and his staff have been notorious for failing to follow COVID-19 mitigation recommendations. Trump was hospitalized with severe COVID in September.
The CDC also warned Americans to clean and disinfect surfaces to reduce the spread.
However, the agency added that transmission of the novel coronavirus from surfaces to people had still “not been documented” at the time.
In May, the CDC said, “Based on data from lab studies on COVID-19 and what we know about similar respiratory diseases, it may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose or possibly their eyes, but this isn’t thought to be the main way the virus spreads.”
On Wednesday, the CDC revealed its plans as Biden’s transition team said Americans would be asked to wear masks in all federal buildings and public transport over the first 100 days of Biden’s tenure.
Biden plans to issue an executive order on his first day in office.
