Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker (D) revealed that the White House is receptive to his demand for a single office to manage all asylum-seekers.
In a letter to President Joe Biden, Pritzker had made the case for more federal funding for the assistance of thousands of asylum-seekers who recently have arrived in Chicago.
“They heard me, you know, there are so many departments that are responsible for helping to care for these asylum-seekers, as well as managing them as they cross the border, I hope that they will put one office together,” he told CBS.
Thousands of migrants arrive in Chicago after crossing the border, and the city has been overwhelmed with handling them.

As the arrival of these migrants tests the capacity of shelter systems, officials of some Democratic strongholds appear to be in disagreement with the Biden administration’s policy on asylum-seekers.
“Governors and mayors from border states have shipped people to our state like cargo in a dehumanizing attempt to score political points. The people of Illinois are kind and generous. We believe in the fundamental right of every human, especially those facing persecution, to find refuge and live with dignity in this great country of ours,” Pritzker said in his letter to the president.
He added that asylum-seekers are entering Chicago in great numbers, which is why the state is struggling to continue assisting the “refugee population.”
Other Democratic Party officials who are at odds with the Biden administration over the handling of the migrant crisis include New York City Mayor Eric Adams and leaders in Massachusetts.
