Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) suggested that the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrectionists would have been successful had she and Steve Bannon arranged the riot.
“I want to tell you something, if Steve Bannon and I had organized that, we would have won. Not to mention, we would’ve been armed,” she told the New York Young Republican Club in Manhattan.
Greene was chiding opponents who suggested she took part in creating the insurrection. She had been sworn into Congress three days earlier and “couldn’t even find a bathroom.”

She spent most of the speech opposing U.S. funding for Ukraine and backing former President Donald Trump. Other speeches at the event espoused authoritarian ideology. Members of white nationalist groups Project Veritas and VDARE were also in attendance.
The White House was dismayed at the Congresswoman’s remarks.
“This violent rhetoric is a slap in the face to the Capitol Police, the D.C. Metropolitan Police, the National Guard, and the families who lost loved ones as a result of the attack on the Capitol. All leaders have a responsibility to condemn these dangerous, abhorrent remarks and stand up for our Constitution and the rule of law,” White House spokesman Andrew Bates said.
Greene has been a strong opponent of the imprisonment of the Capitol rioters, calling them “political prisoners.”
Greene stands to gain power in the new Congress after Republicans take back control. Greene was previously knocked off all of her committee assignments after making racist, conspiratorial and antisemitic claims.
She stands to re-join her committees if Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-California) procures the House gavel in January.
