WATCH: Trump Says He’s Done More For The Black Community Than ‘Any Other President,’ Calls Lincoln’s Presidency ‘Questionable’

President Donald Trump said that he’s done more for the black community than any other U.S. president, also questioning Abraham Lincoln, who freed black people from slavery during the Civil War.

“So, I think I’ve done more for the black community than any other president, and let’s take a pass on Abraham Lincoln, cause he did good, although it’s always questionable, you know, in other words, the end result,” Trump said Friday in an interview to Fox News’ Harris Faulkner.

Faulker, who is black, then interjected and said, referring to Lincoln: “Well, we are free, Mr. President. He did pretty well.”

Trump replied: “But we are free. You understand what I mean. So I’m gonna take a pass on Abe, Honest Abe, as we call him.”

Trump noted the criminal justice reform bill of late 2018, which he signed into law.

“Nobody else could have done it. I did it,” he said. “I didn’t get a lot of notoriety, and the fact the people I did it for then go on television and thank everybody but me, and they needed me to get it done, and I got it done, and I got five or six Republican senators who had no interest in getting it done, and they were great, and we got it done. We did that.”

Trump’s comments come as the nation has been engulfed in anti-racism protests, after an African-American man, George Floyd, was murdered by a white Minneapolis police officer during an arrest.
