President Donald Trump made the Fourth of July speech on Saturday, honoring “American heroes” while vowing to defeat the “radical left” to “preserve American way of life.”
On Friday, the president and wife Melania Trump traveled to South Dakota’s Mt. Rushmore for the independence day celebration, “Salute to America,” where he made many controversial remarks.
Trump initially tried to address a shared value of Americans and called for unity.
“No matter our race, color, or creed, we are one America — and we put America first,” he said.

However, Trump quickly turned to attacking racial justice protesters as he referred to them as members of the “radical left.”
“We will never allow an angry mob to tear down our statues, erase our history, indoctrinate our children or trample on our freedoms,” Trump said.
Trump further denounced so-called “radical left,” even comparing them with the “Nazis.”
“American heroes defeated the Nazis, dethroned the fascists, toppled the communists, saved American values, upheld American principles and chased down the terrorists to the very ends of the earth,” Trump said. “We are now in the process of defeating the radical left, the Marxists, the anarchists, the agitators, the looters, and people who, in many instances, have absolutely no clue what they are doing.”
Trump made many false statements during the speech including ones regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Now we have tested, almost 40 million people. By so doing, we show cases – 99% of which are totally harmless – results that no other country can show because no other country has testing that we have,” Trump said. “Not in terms of the numbers, or in terms of the quality.”
