WATCH: Senators Stunned By Unreleased Capitol Riot Video Of Mitt Romney Running For Safety

Day two of Donald Trump‘s Senate impeachment trial featured footage that until now was unreleased to the public, as well as to the senators present.

One video showed Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) being whisked away from a mob by a Capitol Police officer.

“It tears at your heart and brings tears to your eyes. That was overwhelmingly distressing and emotional,” said Romney who saw the footage for the first time then.

Footage showed Capitol Police officers physically holding off a crowd of rioters as Senators and House members escaped the their chambers. Reporters present for the viewing recall senators sitting up in their seats and leaning forward while others looked away from the haunting footage.

Many Republican senators have stated that they will not budge on a Trump acquittal, claiming that the case is unconstitutional. Even top GOP lawyers, however, assert that the case is constitutional. Even after seeing the graphic footage, staunch Republicans still indicated that they believed the case is invalid.

Later, footage of the same day showed Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-New York) having a close encounter with rioters. While crowds already breached the Capitol building, Schumer and his security detail were running through back hallways looking for a safe exit. Afterwards, Impeachment Manger Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-California) called the encounter a “near miss.”

After seeing the footage himself, Schumer said, “They are utterly amazing and brave and we love them,” referring to his security detail.
