WATCH: Biden Accepts Democratic Nomination For President, Pledging To End ‘Season Of Darkness’

Joe Biden accepted the Democratic presidential nomination Thursday at the fourth virtual National Democratic Convention event, pledging to end “this chapter of American darkness” and emphasized his aims to bring more inclusion to bring all communities together.

“I’ll be a Democratic candidate,” said Biden, but “I will be an American president. I’ll work hard for those who didn’t support me, as hard for them as I did for those who didn’t vote for me. That’s the job of a president, to represent all of us, not just our base or our party. This is not a partisan moment. This must be an American moment.”

In his speech, Biden emphasized his aim to become a president for “all Americans” and expressed empathy and trustworthiness in his words. Remarkably, even though he juxtaposed himself to the current Trump administration, promising to be the “light” against the “darkness,” he never attacked President Donald Trump directly.

“The current president has cloaked America in darkness for much too long – too much anger, too much fear, too much division,” Biden said. “Here and now, I give you my word: If you entrust me with the presidency, I will draw on the best of us, not the worst. I will be an ally of the light, not the darkness.”

Biden promised his voters that he will work on providing medical support and resources to fight the ongoing coronavirus pandemic in the U.S., adding that “the tragedy of this virus is that it could have been avoided.”

“We’ll develop and deploy rapid tests with the results available immediately. We’ll make the medical supplies and protective equipment that our country needs…. We’ll make sure our schools have the resources they need to be open, safe and effective. We’ll put politics aside,” said Biden.

“Let us begin, you and I together, one nation under God, united in our love for America, united in our love for each other. For love is more powerful than hate, hope is more powerful than fear, light is more powerful than dark,” said Biden. “This is our moment. This is our mission. Let history be able to say at the end of this chapter of American darkness began here, tonight, as love and hope and light joined in the battle for the soul of the nation.”

Biden made a pledge to be a president who “will stand with our allies and friends” and end “the days of cozying up to dictators.”

President Trump responded to Biden’s speech in Twitter, attacking him: “In 47 years, Joe did none of the things of which he now speaks. He will never change, just words!”
