WASHINGTON, DC - OCTOBER 21: (L-R) Associate Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas sits with his wife and conservative activist Virginia Thomas while he waits to speak at the Heritage Foundation on October 21, 2021 in Washington, DC. Clarence Thomas has now served on the Supreme Court for 30 years. He was nominated by former President George H. W. Bush in 1991 and is the second African-American to serve on the high court, following Justice Thurgood Marshall. (Photo by Drew Angerer/Getty Images)
After an interview request by the January 6 Committee was sent to Justice Clarence Thomas’s wife, Virginia Thomas, her lawyer responded to the inquiry stating the committee would need “better justification” for why Mrs. Thomas’s testimony is relevant.
Virginia Thomas’ attorney, Mark Paoletta, wrote: “Based on my understanding of the communications that spurred the Committee’s request, I do not understand the need to speak with Mrs. Thomas.”
Thomas is under scrutiny after she was seen at the rally before the Capitol Riot and also spoke with John Eastman on ways to overturn the 2020 election results, including a scheme to force Vice President Mike Pence to pause the electoral count process.
Paoletta continued saying that there were “serious concerns” with his client speaking with the committee as both Thomas and her husband have received death threats due to the overturning of Roe v. Wade.

Paoletta further stated that the interactions between Thomas and Eastman were negligible. The attorney deemed he found “not a single document” warranting Thomas’ testimony to investigators. “All of these emails were exchanged on or before December 9, before the electors met and were certified by each of their states,” he said.
The attorney remains adamant that stronger evidence must be provided before giving the green light for Thomas to interview with investigators. He wrote that she had no information about voter fraud during the election.
