The Republicans have taken control over the Virginia House of Delegates four years after the Democrats won the majority in the chamber.
This comes after the victory of the GOP gubernatorial candidate Glenn Youngkin who defeated former Gov. Terry McAuliffe by three points in a state that President Joe Biden won by 10% in 2020. Democrats conceded that they lost their majority in the House of Delegates after officials spent days counting ballots. Republicans won at least six state House elections giving them a slim advantage of 51 to 49.
The lead could grow to 52 after votes are finalized. Democrats still control the state Senate by one vote.
