NEW YORK - SEPTEMBER 20: Former U.S. President Barack Obama answers questions at the Gates Foundation Inaugural Goalkeepers event on September 20, 2017 in New York City.
Former President Barack Obama has denounced President Donald Trump‘s administration of handling the COVID-19 outbreak.
Obama was delivering a virtual commencement speech on Saturday for the graduates of the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) when he raised concerns regarding the leadership of the White House during this crisis.
“More than anything, this pandemic has fully, finally, torn back the curtain on the idea that so many of the folks in charge know what they’re doing,” Obama said during the remarks.
“A lot of them aren’t even pretending to be in charge. If the world’s [going to] be better, it’s going to be up to you,” he said.

Obama did not specify which “folks in charge” he is referring to – though it seemed obvious he was referring to Trump. During his speech, he also noted about racial disparities during this pandemic.
“Let’s be honest. A disease like this just spotlights the underlying inequalities and extra burdens that black communities have historically had to deal with in this country,” Obama said. “We see it in the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on our [black] communities, just as we see it when a black man goes for a jog and some folks feel like they can stop and question and shoot him if he doesn’t submit to their questioning.”
