Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has criticized President Donald Trump’s decision to impose a 25% tariff on imports from her country, vowing to defend the interests and dignity of the Mexican people. In a video posted on social media, Sheinbaum said the measure announced by Trump would have “serious consequences for the U.S. economy, as it will dramatically increase the cost of all products exported from Mexico to the United States.” Sheinbaum also mentioned a White House claim that the Mexican government had ties with organized crime, calling it “utterly irresponsible.” “We categorically reject the defamatory claims made by the White House accusing the Mexican government of having alliances with criminal organizations, as well as any attempts to interfere in our territory,” she said.
