Rep. Sarah McBride (D-Delaware) discussed her long road to becoming the nation’s first transgender member of Congress and her new documentary, State of Firsts. “I think it’s a testament to Delaware and Delawareans. We are a state of neighbors, and our politics have always been a politics that rejects toxicity and negativity and celebrates the commonality that we have,” McBride told uPolitics founder Erik Meers. “Delaware has this tradition after an election where, where all the candidates go on a parade together, and at the end of the parade, the chair of the local Democratic Party and the chair of the local Republican Party bury, literally bury a hatchet in the sand, which is, which is such a reflection of the kind of politics we have in Delaware.” State of Firsts premieres at the Tribeca Film Festival on Saturday.
