Sens. Patty Murray (D-Washington), Chuck Schumer (D-New York), Amy Klobuchar (D-Minnesota), Chris Murphy (D-Connecticut) and Andy Kim (D-New Jersey) held a press conference in Washington, D.C., to discuss the Trump administration’s memo to freeze federal funding on Tuesday, Jan. 28. “The idea that this is going to cut off funding, put in jeopardy, and throw into chaos people with disabilities, seniors, people with healthcare needs is cruel,” Kim said. “But again, that’s the point. They don’t care about the collateral damage.” Murray called the move “brazen and illegal,” and that the action “could have devastating consequences across the country for real people,” according to a statement from the US Senate Committee on Appropriations.
