An 82-year-old woman was arrested in Edmonds, Washington, on Nov. 4, after police said she assaulted two women who were waving signs in support of Donald Trump.

Police were called to the area just before 1 p.m. following a report of an assault. There, they found multiple community members wearing clothing promoting Trump and waving political signs.

Witnesses said they saw the suspect engaging with the Trump supporters, and the suspect told police she did not understand why people of color would support the Republican.

Officers spoke to a 55-year-old woman who said the suspect had gotten into her face as she was rallying in support of her chosen political candidate. The suspect commented on the victim’s attire and skin color before the suspect pushed the victim and punched her in the chin, according to police.

A second victim, a 66-year-old woman, intervened and stepped between the suspect and the first victim. The suspect responded by punching her, police said. Neither victim suffered significant injury nor required medical treatment.

According to police, the suspect indicated the race of the victims and their political beliefs were the catalyst for her approaching and yelling at them before the assault.

The suspect was booked into the Snohomish County Jail.

“The suspect continued to show no remorse for the incident and the potential to continue her behavior toward others,” the police statement said.
