Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-Illinois), an Iraq war veteran who lost both her legs in combat, lashed out at Fox News’ Tucker Carlson Monday night after he slammed her and suggested that she “hates America.
Duckworth wrote on Twitter, “Does @TuckerCarlson want to walk a mile in my legs and then tell me whether or not I love America?”
Carlson, a top-rated cable news anchor, questioned Duckworth’s patriotism on his show Monday night. He made the remarks after Duckworth claimed that she would consider the removal of U.S. national monuments such as one of President George Washington on CNN Sunday night. During his show, Carlson also condemned the entire Democratic Party’s response to racial justice protesters’ vandalization of historic federally owned statues.

The Fox News host acknowledged Duckworth’s service and snarled, “You’re not supposed to criticize Tammy Duckworth in any way because she once served in the military.”
Duckworth told CNN that there needed to be a “national dialogue” on the possible removal of the statues. On the show, Duckworth stated that the nation needs to “listen to everybody” while debating the matter.
“Unimpressive Person…[and] Deeply silly,” Carlson told his audience. “A national dialogue, please…They are not looking for any kind of colloquy. What they want is a soliloquy. We speak, you shut up and listen. It’s long been considered out of bounds to question a person’s patriotism… But in the face of all this, the conclusion can’t be avoided: These people actually hate America. There’s no longer a question about that.”
Duckworth is being considered to be former Vice President Joe Biden‘s vice presidential running mate.
“They despise this country,” Carlson said. “They have said so. They continue to. That is shocking, but it is also disqualifying. We cannot let them run this nation because they hate it. Imagine what they would do to it.”
