Trump’s Super PAC Running Out Of Cash After Spending On Huge Legal Fees

Donald Trump’s political action committee, Save America, began last year with $105 million on hand. Now, the account has less than $4 million left after paying legal fees for Trump and his allies.

The PAC first signaled financial trouble when it requested a refund for a $60 million donation sent to a pro-Trump organization, Make America Great Again, to be used for television commercials. The group has already given $12.5 million back to Save America in increments.

According to election rules, super PACs can raise unlimited money, but regular PACs have strict donation limits. The pro-Trump super PAC and the Trump-controlled PAC must be independent entities of each other, and the recent transactions are prompting experts to question the integrity of both organizations.

Save America has been under scrutiny since it announced that it was using campaign donations to pay lawyers for Trump and his associates in his multiple legal battles. The recent criminal indictments against the former president have only seemed to energize his supporters, as filings show that donations to his PAC and others affiliated with him surged after each indictment.

The PAC has already spent more than $40 million worth of donor cash on legal fees this year, in addition to the $16 million spent for the same purpose throughout the past two years.

Despite possible convictions, Trump has used his legal woes as political capital. He has intertwined his presidential campaign with his alleged criminal activity and has pushed narratives of a corrupt Justice Department to turn his allies against his perceived enemies.

As the 2024 election cycle ramps up, political experts are questioning Trump’s decision and ability to stay in the race. The former president has spent very little money or time on campaigning, though he is still significantly leading the GOP field.
