Trump’s First Rally Since Conviction Focuses Heavily On Illegal Immigration

Former President Donald Trump discussed immigration reform, President Joe Biden and his conviction at a rally in Nevada on Sunday.

Trump called Nevada a critical battleground state in his first rally following his felony conviction. He also called Nevada a “dumping ground” for illegal immigrants and criticized Biden’s border politics.

“The people of Nevada have had a front-row seat to Joe Biden’s evil and criminal obliteration of our southern border,” Trump said. “It was criminal what he’s done.”

Just days before the rally, Biden announced an executive order that closed the U.S. and Mexico border after 2,500 people cross the border a day.

Trump criticized this plan, calling it “pro-invasion, pro-child trafficking, pro-women trafficking, pro-human trafficking, pro-drug dealers.” He also discussed the instances of violent crimes committed by illegal immigrants.

Trump also launched the rebrand of his Latino outreach effort, changing it from Latinos for Trump to Latino Americans for Trump. Latinos make up an influential voting bloc in Nevada.

He also promised mass deportation, ending birthright citizenship and prohibiting people from entering the U.S. from specific, predominantly Muslim nations.

According to the polling average, Trump is currently leading Biden by more than five points in Nevada. Biden won the state in 2020 by approximately 2.5 percentage points. Trump would be the first GOP candidate to win Nevada since George W. Bush 20 years ago.

Trump also aimed to appeal to Nevada citizens by promising he would not charge taxes on tips, as Nevada is heavily dependent on the hospitality industry and tourism.

Biden’s Hispanic Media Director, Maca Casado, criticized the controversial comments, calling Trump “a dictator who spreads hate.”

“Attacking Latinos is ‘good politics’ in Trump’s eyes,” she added. “Latinos deserve a president who is focused on creating economic opportunity for all of us and making our communities safer. If today showed our community anything, it’s this: we have to reelect Joe Biden.”
