President Donald Trump told veterans that he wanted to give himself the Medal of Honor, but decided not to after his aides advised him against it.
The president made this claim while speaking at the 75th annual National Convention of American Veterans.
During his speech, Trump spoke to a World War II veteran and Medal of Honor recipient, Woody Williams, when he said, “I wanted one, but they told me I don’t qualify, Woody. I said, ‘Can I give it to myself anyway?’ They said, ‘I don’t think that’s a good idea.’”
This questionable statement came after the president had called himself “the chosen one” before boarding his helicopter to fly to the event this week. Trump’s claim raises many questions as he was granted five deferments during the Vietnam War that allowed him to escape military service.
