President Donald Trump began firing over 1,000 Biden appointees, including Coast Guard Commandant Linda Fagan, retired General Mark Milley and celebrity chef Jose Andrés. His administration then set the record with a hiring blitz of 1,300 appointees by his second day in office.
Trump took to Truth Social in a post that read, “Our first day in the White House is not over yet! My Presidential Personnel Office is actively in the process of identifying and removing over a thousand Presidential Appointees from the previous Administration who are not aligned with our vision to Make America Great Again.”
He posted again what he called an “Official Notice of Dismissal.”
“Let this serve as an Official Notice of Dismissal for these four individuals, with many more coming soon: Jose Andres from the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition, Mark Milley from the National Infrastructure Advisory Council, Brian Hook from the Wilson Center for Scholars, and Keisha Lance Bottoms from the President’s Export Council — YOU’RE FIRED!” the post read.

Andrés responded he had already submitted his resignation at the start of the year.
“May God give you the wisdom, Mr. President, to put politics and name calling aside…and instead lift up the everyday people working to bring America together. Let’s build longer tables,” he wrote.
Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Fagan became the first woman to lead a branch of the U.S. military in 2022.
Acting Homeland Security Secretary Benjamine Huffman released a workforce-wide message on Tuesday, relieving Fagan of her duties.
“Under my statutory authority as the Acting Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, I have relieved Admiral Linda L. Fagan of her duties as Commandant of the United States Coast Guard,” he wrote. “I thank her for her service to our nation.”
For the first time since 2007, the U.S. Coast Guard met its recruitment goals for its active-duty workforce in 2024.
A Department of Homeland Security official said she was relieved due to “her leadership deficiencies, operational failures, and inability to advance the strategic objectives of the U.S. Coast Guard.”
She has also been criticized for “excessive focus on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion policies, including at the US Coast Guard Academy, diverting resources and attention from operational imperatives.”
In addition, Trump fired Milley, who has openly turned against Trump in recent years.
“He is the most dangerous person ever. I had suspicions when I talked to you about his mental decline and so forth, but now I realize he’s a total fascist. He is now the most dangerous person in this country. A fascist to the core,” Milley told the Washington Post in 2024.
A portrait of Milley was removed from the Pentagon on Monday, signaling Trump’s ill will toward him.
