MSNBC host Joe Scarborough revealed on his morning show that while President Donald Trump was watching the Capitol riots unfold on his White House television, he was “curious” that his staff weren’t as excited as he was. Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Nebraska) heard from White House aides who specifically called Trump “excited” and “delighted” by the riot.
Earlier accounts of the Capitol riots placed Trump in the White House watching events live, but this is the first account talking about Trump’s conduct. White House aides are also said to have convinced Trump to lower American flags in honor of the Capitol Police officers who died after the Jan. 6 riots when he initially refused.
Scarborough has been increasingly blunt about Trump and his allies after the riots when he called for their immediate arrest in the wake of the deadly storming of the Capitol building. “Let’s call this what this is,” Scarborough said, “We need to start going by definitions, he’s a fascist.”
