Former President Donald Trump is gearing up for a rematch with President Joe Biden in 2024.
This news comes as Biden faces intense criticism over his handling of the coronavirus pandemic and the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan.
Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Florida), staunch Trump ally, commented on a potential rematch. “Trump sees Biden is on the ropes,” Gaetz said. “He wants to throw punches as a combatant, not a heckler from the stand. The base is rightly loyal to him. And a good rule in politics is to be a candidate for as short a time as necessary.”
Gaetz commented that it’s likely Trump will run in 2024 if the GOP takes back one or more chambers of Congress in the 2022 midterm elections.

Though Trump has not publicly announced his intention to run, he has reportedly disclosed details about a future presidential campaign to his close confidants.
That doesn’t mean Trump hasn’t been working on improving his low approval rating, however.
In addition to hiring new communications staff to keep up with his web advertisements, Trump has scheduled several rallies for this fall, including one in Georgia, a critical swing state.
Trump’s PAC announced last month that it hired two staffers from Iowa who are committed to “advancing Save America’s goals of electing strong, pro-Trump, America First conservatives.”
Jason Miller, Trump’s campaign adviser, said on Thursday that the chances of him running are “between 99 and 100 percent. I think he is definitely running in 2024. I had a good conversation with him last night. I’m going to go see him in another couple days here.”
Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan echoed Miller’s sentiment on Thursday: “I know so [that Trump is going to run again]. I talked to him yesterday. He’s about ready to announce after all of this craziness in Afghanistan.”
During an interview with Maria Bartiromo on Fox Business, Trump talked about how election laws would make it difficult for him to announce his run soon. “The campaign finance laws, which are antiquated and stupid, ok? Stupid and corrupt in a way,” Trump said. “They’re stupid. Doesn’t allow me to tell you that, ok? If I tell you that a whole host of things happen, which are bad. So I can’t tell you. I can tell you this. I love our country and you’re going to be very happy.”
