Trump Vows To Appoint A ‘Real Special Prosecutor’ To ‘Go After’ Biden Family If He Is Elected President

In response to a 37-count indictment that alleges him to have mishandled classified documents, former President Donald Trump vowed to appoint a special prosecutor to “go after” President Joe Biden.

“I will appoint a real special prosecutor to go after the most corrupt president in the history of the United States of America, Joe Biden, and the entire Biden Crime family,” said Trump at his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, on Tuesday night, following his Miami arraignment earlier that day.

With this statement, Trump suggested that he would appoint a prosecutor who would charge the former president’s political enemies at his command. While the reality is that Biden and his family are currently being investigated for handling classified documents by two prosecutors that Trump appointed himself, he believes that the Department of Justice is a Democratic weapon against him and his agenda.

Since the Watergate scandal, it has become customary for attorney general nominees to promise that they will resist any pleas from the president to “politicize law.” Trump and his allies, however, are trying to change that.

Jeffrey B. Clark and Russell T. Vought are notorious for their efforts to strip the Department of Justice of its independence from the president. Vought served as the director of the Office of Management and Budget during Trump’s term, and Clark oversaw the Justice Department’s civil and environmental divisions. Clark is the only senior official of the department who aided Trump in his attempt to overturn the 2020 election.

Clark and Vought believe that the president should not treat the Department of Justice any differently than other cabinet agencies, arguing that the president has the power to control federal services and that no department should be an exception.

In a statement, Vought wrote that the Justice Department was “ground zero for the weaponization of the government against the American people… Conservatives are waking up to the fact that federal law enforcement is weaponized against them.”

These attacks on federal law enforcement have embedded themselves into the Republican Party’s platform. Many of Trump’s opponents in the 2024 election have joined him in condemning the Justice Department for their supposedly biased investigation into his classified documents case.

Despite his legal woes, Trump insists that he will remain in the presidential race and is still the leading nominee for the Republican party.
