President Donald Trump has said that he regrets following White House senior adviser Jared Kushner‘s advice on criminal justice reform, pledging that next time he will stick to his instincts.
One source close to the president told Politico that he recalled that the president said, “No more of Jared’s woke s***.”
Trump has vowed to “stick to his instincts” and end any policies which are not aligned with them. That includes the criminal justice reform bill Trump signed before last month’s racial justice protests, which began after killing of George Floyd.
The president had responded to Floyd’s murder with an executive order that many deemed “toothless.” The order banned police chokeholds, “except if an officer’s life is at risk” nationwide. It also created federal incentives through the Department of Justice (DOJ) for local police departments that seek “independent credentialing” to certify that the law enforcement must meet higher standards for the use of force and de-escalation training to thwart further unnecessary deaths of civilians.
