Trump Under Fire For Using Presidential Seal At LIV Golf Tournament

Former President Donald Trump is under fire again by an ethics group for using the presidential seal while out of public office.

The former president has faced many a controversy in the recent months as he has endorsed several right-wing election denialists for the midterm elections including Herschel Walker for a Georgia Senate seat and Mehmet Oz for a Pennsylvania Senate seat.

The group known as Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington filed a complaint against Trump for inappropriate use of the presidential seal after it was spotted on Trump’s golf luggage.

“Unlawful use of the presidential seal for commercial purposes is no trivial matter, especially when it involves a former president who is actively challenging the legitimacy of the current president,” a statement from the ethics organization read.

Under federal law, it is illegal to use both the president and vice-president’s seal in a believable way. If the seal presents “a false impression of sponsorship or approval by the Government of the United States.”

The law states that it is possible to be jailed up to six months if found guilty.

In the past, Trump has also sported the seal on his golf cart as well as seen on several photos he posted on social media.
