A super political action committee (PAC) raised over $70 million in May to support Trump’s campaign following his conviction.

The super PAC, MAGA Inc., amassed these funds throughout May as former President Donald Trump was on trial in New York, later being convicted of 34 felony charges in relation to falsifying business records.

This adds to the nearly $300 million raised by pro-Trump groups and the Trump campaign in the last month, according to a memo written by super PAC CEO Taylor Budowich.

Now, the super PAC plans to spend $100 million in paid media and targeted advertising through Labor Day in four swing states. Pennsylvania, Georgia, Arizona and Nevada are divisive states in this election, so the super PAC is devoting resources to these specific states.

Currently, Trump is leading President Joe Biden in all Arizona, Georgia and Nevada. The numbers are tied or narrow in Pennsylvania and other key states, including Michigan and Wisconsin.

The super PAC is now aiming to secure the 19 electoral votes in Pennsylvania. If Trump won each state he won in 2020, plus Arizona, Nevada and Pennsylvania, he would have 271 electoral votes. A candidate must receive 270 electoral votes to win the White House.

It appears that Trump’s conviction is closely connected to this burst in fundraising. Budowich discussed this in the memo with stakeholders.

“Joe Biden and the Democrats wanted a conviction, and they got it, for now,” said Budowich. “However, the fundamental political realities driving voter motivation remain unchanged: voters are pessimistic about America’s future, large majorities believe the country has gotten worse on a number of critical issues, and President Trump’s favorability and job approval has actually increased this year, while those same measures have gotten worse for Joe Biden.”

Biden’s campaign has shown a monetary advantage over Trump’s campaign and has made investments in paid advertising and opening campaign offices in swing states. Despite this, the polls remain close in many states.

According to a Decision Desk HQ poll, Trump is leading Biden by one to four percentage points in numerous key states, including Arizona, Nevada, Georgia and Pennsylvania. Trump and Biden are separated by less than a percentage point in Michigan.
