Former President Donald Trump‘s Save America PAC made a generous $500,000 donation to Get Georgia Right PAC, which is backing former Georgia Sen. David Perdue (R) in his challenge of sitting GOP Gov. Brian Kemp.
The donation was the former President’s first investment in the midterm race. Trump has criticized Kemp for being unwilling to overturn Georgia’s election results from 2020 and signaled that he is willing to dispense large sums of cash to unseat him.
Kemp is currently favored in the race by 10 percent, according to a poll conducted by Emerson College last week. Kemp is also far ahead of Perdue in fundraising. Campaign filings show that Kemp had over $12 million in reserves while Perdue’s campaign reported $900,000.
Trump’s money will go toward running a political ad against Kemp for failing to adequately investigate the allegations of voter fraud in Georgia, although multiple recounts revealed that President Joe Biden received the majority of votes in the state.

The former President also held a rally, ran a TV ad and held a fundraiser in an effort to boost Perdue’s chances.
Trump appeared on John Fredericks‘ conservative radio program earlier this month, acknowledging “It’s always hard to beat a sitting governor because they have a lot of money behind them. You know, everybody is giving them money. But we will see what happens.”
Trump is expected to invest in other candidates to boost their chances to unseat Trump’s political opponents, such as Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyoming).
“President Trump is committed to supporting his endorsed candidates across the nation, but we won’t be telegraphing our efforts to the media,” Trump spokesperson Taylor Budowich said in a statement.
