Trump Wants Supreme Court To Overturn His Conviction After Being Found Guilty Of 34 Felony Charges

Former President Donald Trump is seeking Supreme Court intervention after being found guilty of 34 felony charges Friday.

A jury of 12 New Yorkers found the former president guilty on all 34 felony charges related to falsifying business records. The business records were falsified during his 2016 campaign to cover up an alleged affair with adult film actress Stormy Daniels. This verdict made Trump the first former president to have felony charges.

Now, Trump is urging the Supreme Court to intervene as he aims to appeal his verdict. The current Supreme Court consists of a 6-3 Republican majority, with three justices appointed by Trump.

He posted on Truth Social, his social media platform, to protest the date of his sentencing and criticize Judge Alvin Bragg, who initially brought the charges against Trump, and Judge Juan Merchen, who oversaw the trial and will ultimately provide sentencing.

“The “Sentencing” for not having done anything wrong will be, conveniently for the Fascists, 4 days before the Republican National Convention,” wrote Trump.

Trump’s sentencing on July 11 is four days before the GOP is expected to declare Trump as their presidential candidate at the Republican National Convention. Leading to the sentencing, prosecutors will speak through court records.

Trump further stated that it was unfair that the two judges would make a choice that would determine the nation’s future.

“The United States Supreme Court MUST DECIDE,” said Trump.

Trump may face various penalties for his Class E felony charges, including up to four years of jail time, house arrest, fines or probation. Legal experts have reported that jail time is rare for first-time offenders, such as Trump, but the fact he has shown no remorse may lead to a harsher sentence.

The Supreme Court is considering another case involving Trump to determine if he should be immune from prosecution concerning the 2020 election and Trump’s actions in the White House.
