WASHINGTON, DC - DECEMBER 06: U.S. President Donald Trump hosts a roundtable discussion with small business owners and members of his administration in the Roosevelt Room at the White House December 06, 2019 in Washington, DC.
After asking government scientists to investigate whether “disinfectant” could cure coronavirus during the Thursday White House briefing, President Donald Trump wrote on Twitter Saturday that the briefings are “not worth the time and effort.”
Trump has been holding the press briefing almost every day in the White House press room after the coronavirus crisis for the last month.
The controversy arose as he began to given some unproven and misleading medical advice during the briefings – such as recommending sunlight and an anti-malaria drug as cures for the virus – only to be corrected by his own medical experts.
The controversy peaked when he suggested during the Thursday briefing that Americans to try “injecting disinfectant” to cure the virus.

Trump’s advisors reportedly told the president that his appearances were only hurting his campaign this year.
“What is the purpose of having White House News Conferences when the Lamestream Media asks nothing but hostile questions, & then refuses to report the truth or facts accurately. They get record ratings, & the American people get nothing but Fake News. Not worth the time & effort!” he wrote on Twitter.
On Friday, Trump took no questions and walked out of the room after an unusually short press briefing.
The president also attempted to correct his past views with tweets claiming that he never said the “pandemic was a hoax.”
