Trump Says Russia Investigation & Impeachment Are To Blame For Shortage In COVID-19 Medical Supplies

President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that he had “a lot of things going on” that prevented him from replenishing the national medical supply stockpile.

ABC’s David Muir pointed out previous comments Trump had made accusing former President Barack Obama for the shortage in medical supplies.

“We started off with a broken system,” Trump previously said. “We inherited a broken, terrible system. And I always say it, our cupboards were bare. We had very little in our stockpile.”

Peter Navarro, Trump’s top trade adviser, warned in January that the coronavirus would cause an economic emergency and urged U.S. officials to increase funding for personal protective equipment for healthcare workers.

Trump reiterated his previous excuse for not dealing with shortages in medical equipment to Muir.

“Well, I’ll be honest. I have a lot of things going on,” Trump said. “We have a lot of people that refused to allow the country to be successful.”

“They wasted a lot of time on Russia, Russia, Russia — that turned out to be a total hoax,” the president added.
