President Donald Trump tweeted early Sunday morning to accuse the media and the Democratic Party of trying to make us look bad” on the administration’s COVID-19 response.
The tweet read, “We have a perfectly coordinated and fine tuned plan at the White House for our attack on CoronaVirus. We moved VERY early to close borders to certain areas, which was a Godsend. V.P. is doing a great job. The Fake News Media is doing everything possible to make us look bad. Sad!”
The Trump Administration has faced a series of criticisms for the handling of the COVID-19 outbreak. Many health experts have said that the administration is doing a poor job keeping the American public calm and informed, and have also suggested that this has left the public unprepared to combat the virus.

The president came back to the issue on Monday morning, tweeting again, “The Fake News Media and their partner, the Democrat Party, is doing everything within its semi-considerable power (it used to be greater!) to inflame the CoronaVirus situation, far beyond what the facts would warrant. Surgeon General, ‘The risk is low to the average American.’”
In February, Alex Azar, the Health and Human Services Secretary, announced that the Center for Disease Control (CDC) had started working in five cities across the country to prepare them to test for the virus. However, the CDC refuted his claims, saying that the cities mentioned were not ready to test for the virus and many tests were malfunctioning.
By the end of February, only about a dozen labs outside of the CDC could properly test for the virus. But the president has publically refuted this, saying on Friday that, “anybody that needs a test gets a test.” At least 17 people have died in the United States, and there are about 43o people tested positive in 28 states.
