Trump Says He Doubts Need For COVID-19 Testing: ‘Testing’s, Frankly, Overrated’

President Donald Trump claimed the U.S. has the most COVID-19 cases only because it is doing more testing than other countries.

On Thursday at the medical supply center Owen’s & Minor in Allentown, Pennsylvania, Trump showed up to give a speech to the workers in the facility, with no mask on his face, as usual.

During his speech, he tried to convince employees at he center that the outbreak is not that severe.

“America has now conducted its ten-millionth test. That’s as of yesterday afternoon. Ten million tests we gave, ten million,” Trump said. “And CVS has just committed to establishing up to 1,000 new coronavirus testing sites by the end of this month, and the ten-millionths will go up very, very rapidly. And don’t forget, we have more cases than anybody in the world. But why? Because we do more testing. When you test, you have a case. When you test, you find something is wrong with people. If we didn’t do any testing, we would have very few cases.”

Trump suggested that the number of tests in the U.S. is perhaps too much and unnecessary.

“So we have the best testing in the world,” Trump said. “It could be the testing’s, frankly, overrated? Maybe it is overrated.”

Trump has been cliaming that his administration has been doing a great job fighting the outbreak.

During the speech on Thursday, Trump mentioned that he had talked to the South Korean president. South Korea has reported less than a hundred cases per day in recent weeks.

“We’re testing more people per capita than South Korea, the U.K., France, Japan, Sweden, Finland, and many other countries,” Trump said on Monday.
