President Donald Trump criticized America’s top infectious disease expert Anthony Fauci on Thursday saying he “has made a lot of mistakes.”
In an interview with Fox News, Trump was asked to comment on the recent increase of coronavirus cases in Texas and Fauci’s evaluation of the situation, Trump proceeded to criticize him, saying he disagreed with his opinion. The country, meanwhile, has recently reached three million coronavirus cases, with 60,000 daily new cases across 31 state, with an increase of 10,000 cases from last week.
“Dr. Fauci is a nice man, but he’s made a lot of mistakes,” Trump said.
“Dr. Fauci said don’t wear masks and now he says wear them,” he told Gray Television’s Greta Van Susteren. “And he said numerous things. Don’t close off China. Don’t ban China. I did it anyway. I didn’t listen to my experts, and I banned China. We would have been in much worse shape. You wouldn’t believe the number of deaths more we would have had if we didn’t do the ban.”

He also added that the country has done “a good job” and said he expected the country to be “in a good shape” in “two, three, four weeks.” Fauci, on the contrary, has warned last week that the cases could increase to up to 100,000 a day.
Fauci, meanwhile, did not entirely contradict Trump. He supported the president’s decision to close borders with China, while the mask comments were made due to masks and gear shortage for doctors during the early weeks of the pandemic.
Fauci said he last saw Trump in person at the White House on June 2, and has not briefed the president for at least two months.
