President Donald Trump on Sunday retweeted a video from a protest in Florida, showing a Trump campaign supporter chanting a white supremacist slogan, “white power.” He later deleted the tweet.
The video from The Villages, a retirement community in Florida, showed Trump supporters and anti-Trump protestors, yelling insults at each other. Trump supporters drove by the protestors, displaying Trump signs at their golf cars. One Trump supporter driving a golf cart with Trump campaign sign yelled “white power,” which is a white supremacist slogan.
Trump retweeted the video, signing it with approving comments: “Thank you to the great people of The Villages. The Radical Left Do Nothing Democrats will Fall in the Fall. Corrupt Joe is shot. See you soon!!” He deleted the post nearly three hours later.
The White House deputy press secretary Judd Deere released a statement, denying that Trump was aware of the white supremacist chant on the video: “President Trump is a big fan of The Villages. He did not hear the one statement made on the video. What he did see was tremendous enthusiasm from his many supporters.”

The tweet spiked criticism among many officials. Presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden criticized Trump retweeting the video, tweeting that the President “has picked a side.”
Sen. Tim Scott (R-South Carolina), the only black senator in the Republican conference, told CNN Trump “should not have retweeted it.”
Trump’s comments come amid the ongoing nationwide racial unrest, sparked after the murder of George Floyd at hands of a white police officer in Minneapolis. Protests against police violence and racism have been going on across the states ever since.
