President Donald Trump showed his frustration with Dr. Anthony Fauci, the federal government’s top infectious disease expert, on Sunday after he said more lives could have been saved if the nation shut down earlier due to the coronavirus (COVID-19).
DeAnna Lorraine, a former Republican candidate for Congress, tweeted, “Fauci is now saying that had Trump listened to the medical experts earlier he could’ve saved more lives. Fauci was telling people on February 29th that there was nothing to worry about and it posed no threat to the US public at large. Time to #FireFauci…”
While rejecting criticism of the federal government’s slow response to the virus, Trump retweeted her message and said, “Sorry Fake News, it’s all on tape. I banned China long before people spoke up.”

Trump was referring to an order to block foreign nationals who had been in China in the past 14 days from coming into the United States in February. Despite this order, 40,000 Americans and other travelers have come into the United States from China.
