Former President Donald Trump repeatedly asked the Department of Justice and Federal Communications Commission to investigate Saturday Night Live during his presidency.
Trump was never informed that no legal action could be taken, but was told repeatedly that someone would “look into it.”
Trump suggested he would ask the DOJ to investigate the comedy program in a series of tweets while he was still president. “It’s truly incredible that shows like Saturday Night Live, not funny/no talent, can spend all of their time knocking the same person (me), over & over, without so much of a mention of “the other side”.”
In another tweet, he said: “Like an advertisement without consequences. Same with Late Night Shows. Should Federal Election Commission and/or FCC look into this?”

The story just adds to a strong pattern of Trump attempting to use federal institutions for his own personal causes. Recently, emails released show Trump attempting to coerce the DOJ to investigate baseless claims such as the “ItalyGate” election conspiracy theory and others, in an attempt to overturn the 2020 election.
