Trump Rages Over New York Indictment In Posts With Multiple Spelling Mistakes

Former President Donald Trump went on a Truth Social tirade after his Thursday indictment, posting an official statement as well as a misspelled rant in which he claimed that the United States is in “SERIOUS DECLINE.”

Trump’s indictment is related to a case in 2016 where he allegedly ordered his lawyer to pay $130,000 to a porn star in hush money and lied about it. Trump is the first former American president to face criminal charges in U.S. history.

Trump called the Manhattan DA and his team “Thugs and Radical Left Monsters,” and said that his being indicted (misspelled in the post as “indicated”) was an “AN ATTACK ON OUR COUNTRY THE LIKES OF WHICH HAS NEVER BEEN SEEN BEFORE.”

He also argued that the indictment is “A CONTINUING ATTACK ON OUR ONCE FREE AND FAIR ELECTIONS,” suggesting that as a presidential candidate, he should be immune from criminal charges.

He continued, concluding that “THE USA IS NOW A THIRD WORLD NATION, A NATION IN SERIOUS DECLINE. SO SAD!”

In his official statement directly after the indictment was issued, Trump reiterated that the case is just another example of him being a victim in a Democratic Party-led witch hunt to disgrace him.

“You remember it just like I do,” he told his followers. “Russia, Russia, Russia; the Mueller Hoax; Ukraine, Ukraine, Ukraine; Impeachment Hoax 1; Impeachment Hoax 2; the illegal and unconstitutional Mar-a-Lago raid; and now this.”

While Manhattan prosecutors wanted to arrest Trump on Friday, his lawyers argued that this was impossible for logistical concerns with Trump’s secret service detail. The former president is expected to surrender to authorities on Tuesday.

He will be fingerprinted and photographed by New York officials once he is inside the Manhattan courthouse.

It is unclear what the implications for his presidential race may be, although there are no U.S. laws that currently prevent a candidate from running for president from prison.

It has happened before. In 1920, socialist candidate Eugene Debs ran for president from prison and received roughly one million votes. He was incarcerated for protesting America’s involvement in World War I, a crime under the repressive wartime Sedition Act.
