Trump Ousts Mike Waltz As National Security Adviser After Signalgate Scandal & Right-Wing Influencer Laura Loomer’s Complaints

President Donald Trump has ousted National Security Adviser Mike Waltz and announced that he will nominate him as the next U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.

Waltz faced criticism within the White House, specifically for being caught up in the Signal chat scandal in March alongside other top Trump National security aides.

In late March, Jeffrey Goldberg, the editor-in-chief for The Atlantic, reported that the Trump Administration accidentally sent him plans to attack Houthi militants in Yemen.

Goldberg published an article in which he reported being added to a group chat called “Houthi PC small group” via the messaging app Signal on March 13.

The now-ousted national security adviser accidentally added Goldberg to the private group chat.

During a subsequent Cabinet meeting, Trump conveyed his preference for securely holding these kinds of conversations.

At the time, however, he and others in the White House publicly shared their confidence in Waltz.

Waltz was also targeted by right-wing influencer Laura Loomer, who met with Trump in the Oval Office last month to share her complaints.

Trump named Secretary of State Marco Rubio as his temporary replacement after the former national security adviser was ousted on May 1.

“I am pleased to announce that I will be nominating Mike Waltz to be the next United States Ambassador to the United Nations,” the president wrote on social media. “From his time in uniform on the battlefield, in Congress and as my National Security Advisor, Mike Waltz has worked hard to put our Nation’s Interests first.”

“In the interim, Secretary of State Marco Rubio will serve as National Security Advisor while continuing his strong leadership at the State Department,” he announced. “Together, we will continue to fight tirelessly to Make America, and the World, SAFE AGAIN.”

Waltz’s deputy, Alex Wong, is also being ousted.
