Trump Organization Furloughs Nearly 2,000 Staff Due To Coronavirus

President Donald Trump‘s company, The Trump Organization, has furloughed nearly 2,000 employees across the country, as the coronavirus pandemic threatens the country’s hospitality industry.

Of 2,000 workers, 560 employees were furloughed from its Trump National Doral Miami in South Florida.

According to the organization’s head of HR, it has furloughed “nonessential” staff.

“We anticipate that this cessation of nonessential operations of the Club and these furloughs will be temporary. Based on the fluid and rapidly evolving nature of this situation, however, at this time we are unable to provide a specific date at which we will be able to recommence regular Club operations and return affected employees to work,” said the head of HR in a statement.

The Wall Street Journal reported earlier this month that The Trump Organization has laid off or furlough about 1,500 employees in its U.S. and Canada properties.

Trump has been eager to reopen state economies and put Americans into their workplaces again.

Trump has also claimed that he has absolute power over governors to decide the matter of opening or closing the U.S. economy.

“When somebody is the president of the United States, the authority is total,” he said. Trump later backtracked and said that it would be up states to decide on reopening.
