Trump Organization Found Guilty Of Tax Fraud

A New York jury found the Trump Organization guilty of tax fraud on Tuesday adding to the long list of legal turmoil for Donald Trump, who formally announced his 2024 candidacy for the White House last month.

Though Trump is not personally responsible, prosecutors claimed that he “knew exactly what was going on,” as his company failed to report or pay taxes on perks such as apartments and cars for top executives. The Trump Organization’s former chief financial officer Allen Weisselberg was the only individual person charged with wrongdoing.

Trump already said that he plans to appeal the decision.

“It is a continuation of the Greatest Political Witch Hunt in the History of our Country,” Trump said in a Tuesday statement. “New York City is a hard place to be ‘Trump.'”

The Trump Organization’s legal team claimed that Weisselberg was solely responsible for committing fraud on his personal tax filings and that the organization as a whole did not do anything wrong.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg‘s office brought forward the case against the Trump Organization and sentencing is scheduled for January 13. It will likely face fines of up to $1.6 million. Weisselberg will have separate sentencing, but the date has not yet been made public.

This comes as Trump is facing legal ramifications for his alleged efforts in overturning the results of the 2020 election and possibly taking classified White House documents with him after his term was over. He and the Trump Organization are also under investigation by New York Attorney Gen. Letitia James for falsifying financial statements.
