Trump Mocks Rep. Ilhan Omar At Rally: ‘How Is Your Country Doing?’

At a campaign rally in Moon Township, Pennsylvania on Tuesday, President Donald Trump fired off a series of attacks at Representative Ilhan Omar (D-Minnesota) about her nationality and effectiveness as a member of the House.

“We’re going to win the state of Minnesota because of her,” Trump claimed, “She’s telling us how to run our country. How did you do where you came from? How is your country doing?” Omar fled to the United States as a refugee from Somalia when she was eight years old, and became a U.S. citizen at the age of 17 in 2000.

“This is my country & I am a member of the House that impeached you,” wrote Omar on Twitter, responding to Trump’s statements on Tuesday.

This is not the first time Trump has led a series of attacks on Omar; last year, Trump tweeted that she and three other progressive congresswomen, known as “the squad” (consisting of Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY), Rashida Tlaib (Michigan), and Ayanna Pressley (Massachusetts), should “go back” to their countries, despite all four being citizens of the United States.

Despite Trump’s claims that he is going to win Minnesota in the 2020 election, he currently is trailing behind Democratic candidate Joe Biden by a 10% margin, according to averages from the swing state’s polls. It will be a difficult battle for him and his administration to win the state, where Omar is expected to be easily reelected, as she represents a strongly Democratic district that includes Minneapolis.
