On Wednesday, President Donald Trump clashed once again with the nation’s top virologist, Dr. Anthony Fauci. The doctor’s suggestion at Senate hearing that the country ought to be careful about reopening schools too quickly angered Trump.
“I was surprised by his answer actually,” Trump said. “It’s just, to me it’s not an acceptable answer, especially when it comes to school.”
Fauci warned that early reopenings could have dire consequences and might set the country back to an earlier stage of the virus, requiring stricter and stricter social distancing measures. On Tuesday, he answered questions from senators where he explained that a vaccine will not be ready in time for schools to reopen in the fall.
A day later, during a meeting with governors from North Dakota and Colorado, the president contradicted Fauci, stressing the urgency of restarting the country’s economy and education system.

“We’re opening our country. People want it open. The schools are going to be open,” the president stated in the Cabinet Room.
Former Vice President Joe Biden weighed in on the conflict between Fauci and Trump.
“I would trust the guy who’s one of our nation’s top health experts, not the one who pondered injecting disinfectant into the body and looked directly at a solar eclipse,” Biden said in a tweet.
