Trump International Hotel In D.C. Stands Empty After Trump Leaves Office

The opulent Trump International Hotel in Washington D.C. buzzed with continuous activity throughout Donald Trump’s presidency, but since the former president moved to Palm Beach, Florida, it appears many lobbyists have found greener pastures.

The 263-room hotel, which is just blocks from Capitol Hill, was near capacity even during the COVID-19 pandemic, but the once-bustling hotel is now near empty.

Many international diplomats and domestic lobbyists book their stays, and often booked extra rooms, at the expensive hotel hoping to curry favor with the then-President Trump. Now, staff now outnumber guests in the massive building.

The hotel lobby’s three restaurants are all in various stages of reopening due to D.C. pandemic precautions. “We are doing very well, considering the current restrictions,” the the hotel’s manager Mickael Damelincourt, told The New York Times. “We are looking forward to welcoming many travelers back to D.C. over the next few months.”

Financial disclosure reports from the Trump Organization disclosed last week that the hotel showed a 63% decline in revenue. When asked, Eric Trump attributed the lost revenue solely to the pandemic and D.C.’s COVID-19 restrictions.
