Trump Falsely Claims He Will Win Election If All ‘Legal Votes’ Are Counted At White House Press Conference

President Donald Trump baselessly attacked mail-in voting in remarks Thursday, falsely claim once again that he had won the election based on all legal votes.

There is no evidence of any widespread voter fraud by mail, yet the method has been under siege by Trump’s campaign for months, but particularly now as the race tightens, with many saying the current standings favor Democratic nominee Joe Biden.

The Associated Press currently predicts Biden securing 264 electoral votes, and Trump 214 — with Nevada, Georgia, North Carolina and Pennsylvania still up for grabs. The Democrat is currently leading by about 12,000 votes in Nevada and took the lead in Georgia last night and is ahead by 917 votes. In Pennsylvania, a state that could not begin processing mail-in ballots until late Tuesday, Biden has been closing the gap and is behind Trump by approximately 18,000 votes.

The results as of Election Night had largely favored Trump — showing him leading in Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Michigan. That shift was predicted, as many election analysts noted the in-person tally, often counted first, would favor Trump, while the mail-in tally would favor Biden.

“This is a case where they’re trying to steal an election, they’re trying to rig an election, and we can’t let that happen,” Trump said Thursday of the change in events.

In similar messaging, Trump fired off a series of tweets throughout the day questioning the legitimacy of the results.

“I easily WIN the Presidency of the United States with LEGAL VOTES CAST,” he wrote in one tweet. “The OBSERVERS were not allowed, in any way, shape, or form, to do their job and therefore, votes accepted during this period must be determined to be ILLEGAL VOTES. U.S. Supreme Court should decide!”

“STOP THE COUNT!” he wrote in another tweet, referring to states continuing to process mail-in ballots that had been postmarked on or before Election Day.

It appears Trump campaign’s strategy has been a Haily Mary series of lawsuits regarding mail-in ballots in key swing states, as well as having already demanded a recount in Wisconsin, a state the AP called as having flipped from Trump to Biden.

The Trump team filed lawsuits in both Pennsylvania and Michigan demanding the counting stops until their team is given the ability to witness the process. The campaign also filed a suit against improper vote county in a county in Georgia, and has sued Clark County in Nevada for its process for observing ballot processing. The campaign also said it would request the Supreme Court to intervene in a Pennsylvania state court decision allowing ballots to continue to be counted after Election Day —a standard policy in many states.
