Trump Expresses Anger Over ‘Parasite’ Best Picture Oscar Win, Slams Brad Pitt At Colorado Rally

During a campaign rally in Colorado, President Donald Trump claimed the movie “Parasite,” should not have won the Academy Award for Best Picture moments before admitting he had not seen the film.

“How bad were the Academy Awards this year?” Trump asked the crowd. “Did you see it? The winner is … a movie from South Korea! What the hell was that all about? We got enough problems with South Korea with trade. On top of that, they give him best movie of the year?”

He then admitted he did not know if the movie was good because he had not seen it.

“Was it good? I don’t know,” he said, going on to reflect wistfully on classic Hollywood movies. “Let’s get Gone With the Wind back, please? Sunset Boulevard. So many great movies. I thought it was best foreign film, no?”

Parasite, a thrilling South Korean comedy that dives into class divisions, was the first foreign-language film ever to win the best picture prize. It won a total of four Oscars, including awards for directing, original screenplay and international feature.

The distributor of the film, Neon, hit back at Trump on Twitter suggesting he was not a fan of subtitled movies because they require him to read.

“Understandable, he can’t read,” Neon wrote in response to Trump’s comments.

Trump continued on his Academy Awards beat throughout the rally, later going after actor Brad Pitt for his political commentary during the awards show.

When Pitt accepted his award for supporting actor for his role in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Pitt said:  “They told me I only have 45 seconds up here, which is 45 seconds more than the Senate gave John Bolton this week,” referencing Republican senators who blocked former National Security Adviser from testifying in the now-closed impeachment case.

“I was never a big fan of his,” Trump said of Pitt. “He got up, said a little wise guy thing. He’s a little wise guy.”
