On Tuesday, Iran and Israel announced a ceasefire after 12 days of fighting. But Israel said it planned to continue striking Iran despite the truce after a single Iranian missile was fired after the deadline passed.
Iran, however, denied these claims. Following this dispute between the countries, President Donald Trump made several comments to reporters in the White House and on social media.
Before his departure to the NATO summit, Trump told the media: “We basically — we have two countries that have been fighting so long and so hard that they don’t know what the f— they’re doing.” He also posted on Truth Social: “ISRAEL. DO NOT DROP THOSE BOMBS. IF YOU DO IT IS A MAJOR VIOLATION. BRING YOUR PILOTS HOME, NOW! DONALD J. TRUMP, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES”
Trump’s displeasure wasn’t just displayed towards Israel, “[Iran] violated it, but Israel violated it too… So, I’m not happy with them, I’m not happy with Iran either.”

Around an hour following Trump’s initial comments, he posted on Truth Social again, confirming that the ceasefire would hold: “ISRAEL is not going to attack Iran. All planes will turn around and head home while doing a friendly “Plane Wave” to Iran. Nobody will be hurt; the Ceasefire is in effect! Thank you for your attention to this matter! DONALD J. TRUMP, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES”
Before the ceasefire, over the weekend, the U.S. military had assisted in intercepting strikes targeting Israel as well as helping the Israeli military in striking three of Iran’s nuclear facilities.
On Monday, Iran had strikes targeting a U.S. military base located in Qatar. These strikes were intercepted by both U.S. and Qatari military forces. Trump informed the public via social media that Iran warned the U.S. that the strikes were coming.
